Turn off your TV set - and bid on this $11,000 vintage telly instead

A quirky 1962 television is the latest vintage tech' piece to become a prized collectible in 2011

You might want to keep your eyes glued to this unique piece, which is appearing for sale at Quittenbaum Kunstauktionen in Mnchen, Germany, this evening (February 15).

Pictured below is a classic "Doney" 14-inch television set originally designed by Richard Sapper and Marco Zanuso in 1962.

The television was made by Brionvega of Milan and is a perfect example of how yesterday's fashionable technologies have become today's fascinating collectibles.

Classic telly:a Brionvega TV from 1962

Measuring 37.5 x 36 x 33 cm, the television is constructed from chrome-plated metal, black plastic and perspex.

It will appear at Quittenbaum Kunstauktionen with a 7,000-8,000 pre-sale estimate in a velvet sack. And rest assured, its original instruction manual is included (albeit protected by perspex).
