Toulouse-Lautrec rare 1893 poster auctions in London sale, next week

Toulouse-Lautrec is held in the same esteem as Czanne and Van Gogh; this poster by him is up for sale

Here's a great lot which is appearing for sale in an upcoming London vintage posters auction on February 16.

It's no exaggeration to say that Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) is up there with the greatest painters of the Post-Impressionist period.

This name is often cited alongside Czanne (who enjoyed his own Word Record priced auction sale this week), Van Gogh, and Gauguin.

Toulouse-Lautrec's posters are among the most coveted on the markets - which will no doubt be proved in the upcoming London sale.

Vintage posters are a hot market right now. And the sheer variety of posters available to collectors is staggering.

Examples that we have for sale include a California League of Sexual Freedom poster. The organisation was founded in New York in 1963 and, not surprisingly, its posters bear incredible '60s psychedelic designs.

We also have Fidel Castro's autograph on Poster of Recognition, signed by the man himself over the image of Che Guevara.

The Toulouse-Lautrec art poster auctioning in London next week is entitled Divan Japonais (pictured above). The lithograph in colours dates to 1893 and measures 31 x 24 inches (79 x 61cm). It was printed in Paris.

This particular poster carries a 12,000-16,000 presale estimate.

Given that Toulouse-Lautrec's other works have sold for upwards of $50,000, this sale will certainly be one to watch.
