Tiffany window teaches a 'lesson' at $36k

An early 20th century stained glass window by the renowned New York designer house has sold

We've reported on a number of beautiful Tiffany Studios items at Paul Fraser Collectibles - including the renowned New York design house's famous art deco lamps, which shonein anumber of high-profile auctions, last year.

Yet Tiffany's was also famous for its unique stained glass windows, one of which sold for five figures at Great Gatsby's Antiques and Auctions' sale, last weekend (February 6).

The Lesson, sold for $36k

The Lesson is a rare and valuable early 20th century American stained glass window depicting a teacher with her student.

It was constructed with company founder Louis Comfort Tiffany's unparalleled talent for creating three dimensional depth using triple layers of art glass.

Also evident in the window is the exceptional work by Tiffany's master craftsman Frederick Wilson, which can be seen in the painted faces of both figures.

Contained within a 48 x 20 inches bronze frame, the window realised an incredible $36,000 at the auction.

Not only is the window a singular and remarkable piece of art, it has proven itself as a good appreciating investment. The same windowsold for$28,000 in a June, 2005 sale.

Collectors withnostalgia for classic cars were also satisfied at the Great Gatsby's auction.

A1966 427 Roadster, boasting a muscular 427 big-block engine producing 390 hp, matching numbers and its original side exhaust pipes, sold for $81,000.
