Three new World Records and a $2.75m Ferrari at premier car event

Aston Martin, Jaguar and Buick all sold for record amounts at this year's Concours d'Elegance

Three World Record prices and total of $21m in sales was achieved at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance auction.

The record breakers were a 1953 Aston Martin DB 2/4 Drop Head Coupe, sold at $1,650,000; a 1953 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster sold for $192,500; and a 1938 Buick Limited Series 80 Opera Brougham which brought $506,000.

Impressively, 83% of all the lots sold at Good & Company, Pebble Beach's official auction house.

A 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider auctioned for $2.75m was the highest sale of the evening, held on Saturday August 16.

Another highlight was an historic collection of American race cars from the Don & Joan Lyons Collection which collectively raised $1,034,000.

These included the 1964 Dean Van Lines Roadster which launched the career of racing legend Mario Andretti, which brought $231,000.

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is still regarded as the world's premier celebration of the automobile, and Saturday's auction proved that car collecting remains in fine health.
