The Macallan proves that 1948 is a great year for whisky collectors

A bottle of the 1948 single malt from the renowned distillery is up for sale this weekend

Whiskyauction's current sale looks certain to attract attention from collectors before bidding closes on November 27.

The sale, comprising the collection of a single owner, features a number of notable lots. But without doubt the sale's highlight is a Macallan 1948 single malt with its level in the neck.

Ithas a floral palate with lightly burnt peat smoke characteristics, a light and elegant finish and is one of the most admired and awarded single malts available.

Macallan's dedication to quality has gained it recognition as one of the world's greatest distilleries, and earlier this month it also became a World Record holder.

A bottle of 64-year old Macallam was bought during a charity auction in New York for an amazing price of $460,000, and leapt into the record books as the most expensive whisky ever sold. The bottle did however come in a unique Lalique crystal decanter, adding tobothits collectibility and value.

The Macallan 1948 can boast no such container, but it's history and reputation speak for themselves. With a current bid of $2,544(as ofNovember 24)and previous sales reaching over$9,500, it could again prove a sound investment opportunityand one of the industry's most coveted brands.
