The 'greatest modern Baseball collectible' runs to auction

The last pinstripes of NY Yankees and Hall of Fame legend, Mickey Mantle, are selling at Heritage

A shirt unquestionably identified as the jersey worn by New York Yankees and Hall of Fame Legend Mickey Mantle at the end of his career is going under the hammer.

The shirt has been extensively photo-matched, researched and authenticated by experts.

Worn by Mantle during his final season in 1969, it has been dubbed one of the greatest memorabilia items to ever surface in the hobby.

Consigned by a South Florida Collector, it carries an estimate of $100,000.

The shirt, estimatedat $100k, has been extensively verified by experts

"This amazing jersey truly represents the find of a lifetime for collectors of top shelf baseball memorabilia," said Chris Ivy, Director of Heritage Sports Collectibles, in a statement.

"[It] has been definitively photo-matched to the one Mick wore on the cover of the Mickey Mantle Day program distributed to more than 60,000 fans at Yankee Stadium on June 8, 1969 -certainly one of the most famous photos of Mantle ever shot."

This Ruth signature is on the market, priced 7,500 ($12,375)

"Even more incredible is the fact that it sat in a private collection for more than three decades with the owner completely unaware of how important a piece it actually is," said Ivy.

Mantle's historic jersey will make its auction debut at Heritage Auction Galleries Signature Sports Memorabilia Auction.

Heritage's sale is scheduled for April 22-23.

In other baseball collectiblesnews,a signed baseball bearing the autographs of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig recently auctionedat Cordier Antiques & Auctions in Pennsylvania, US.

The historic ball, signed by the stars at an exhibition game at Dexter Park, was caught by one lucky bidder for a bargain $4,500.

It was certainly a great buy. Other Ruth autographs like this one, which is currently available on the market, can command much higher prices.

Last year, Babe Ruth's 'most important bat' auctioned in the US, swinging towards an incredible final hammer price of $537,750.
