Tammy Allen classic car museum unveils JFK's ambulance at grand opening

Tammy Allen will tonight reveal the ambulance thought to have carried President Kennedy's body

The ambulance believed to have carried President Kennedy's body following his assassination in 1963 is going on display tonight at the grand opening of Allen Unique Autos, the museum of classic car collector Tammy Allen.

The Pontiac Bonneville Navy ambulance is reported to have transported the president's body from Air Force One to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, following the aircraft's flight from Dallas on the day he was shot.

Some experts have suggested the ambulance is actually a replica and that the original was scrapped in the 1980s.

Such is the interest in it and the other 100 classic cars in Tammy Allen's collection that tickets for the opening night at the museum in Grand Junction, Colorado are selling for $35.

Tammy Allen is a name familiar to classic car investors. A keen collector of rare, vintage vehicles, she bought the ambulance for $132,000 in January 2011.

A Wasabi Mercury purchased by Tammy for $300,000 will also be unveiled on Friday night.
