Talbot-Lago Coup races behind James Bond '007' in RM's London auction

This specially designed, one-of-four Teardrop Coup rolled to $2.9m at the Battersea sale

As we reported last week, bidders were resoundingly stirred by James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 in London. As featured in the Sean Connery-starring classics Goldfinger and Thunderball, the iconic motor revved to $4.1m in RM's auction.

Bond's DB5 is now the most expensive Aston but also the most valuable film car ever sold at auction - yet it wasn't the only star of RM's sale, held in Battersea.

The Talbot-Lago Teardrop Coup was#2 in RM's London sale

In second place was the stunning Talbot-Lago Teardrop Coup by Figoni et Falaschi, representing, in the words of RM: "the crowning achievement of French design and engineering during the 1930s."

It's believed that just 16 Teardrops were built in total, along two slightly different body styles.

The first five were built in the "Jeancart" design - named after its owner - a beautiful aerodynamic coup with a long, streamlined rear.

The engine of Chassis 93064, one of only four extant in the world

Of the five built, only four remain today. Chassis 93064 was the sole Jeancart-style Teardrop originally built upon a four-litre, T23 "Baby" chassis and took second place in RM's sale, bringing $2,879,350 (1,792,000).
