Stunning multi-coloured Joseph Porcelli lamp to light up Michaans sale

The Huysum Bouquet lamp will be one of the key lots in the Decorative Arts Auction

A 22" leaded glass "Huysum" Bouquet lamp from the studio of Joseph Porcelli will be featured in the upcoming August 12, 2011 Decorative Arts Auction held by Michaan's Auctions of Alameda, California.

The conical shade displays a floral design that echoes the style of the Dutch Floral artists of the 17th and 18th centuries, in particular that of painter Jan van Huysum.

The all-over design is made up of both imaginary and representative images of numerous flowers and floral arrangements in colours ranging from deep red, to magenta, to orange-yellow, mauve pink and shades of white, all on a dramatic background of fractured and mottled glass that transitions from a rich forest green to a deep blue-purple.

The design has an upper and lower border of textured reddish-pink art glass.

The "Huysum Bouquet" rests on a vase shaped base that carries the same greenish-brown patina as the shade. The shade on its base stands 26" tall and is signed.

Most recently, a 22" Orchid lamp from the Porcelli Studio was one of the three top lots, exceeding its high estimate, during James D. Julia's Lamp & Glass Auction, held on June 24th, 2011.

During Michaan's November 2010 Auction, a 20" Porcelli Bouquet sold for $18,720, besting its estimate of $12,000-$14,000.

Michaan's Decorative Arts Auctions are co-coordinated by Specialist in Charge, Reyne Haines, Decorative Arts expert and frequent guest on the very popular Antiques Road Show television program. (Of course Reyne is also a key member of our expert panel.)

The August 12th auction includes works form the Tiffany Studios and glass from the private collection of Steven Lundberg.
