The auctioneer Eldred's describes this folk fiddle simply as "unusual" and on this occasion I agree with them wholeheartedly. The attached amplification mechanism is presumably to compensate for the openwork body which would not produce any resonance- I wonder how it sounds! Created some time in the late 19th/ early 20th Century this fiddle is set to go up for auction on the 31st of July with an estimated price of $300-500.
