Still fizzing a century on: Moet Chandon 1911 Champagne sells for charity

A case of the vintage bubbly is on offer at Christie's - and the buyer wins lunch with Scarlett Johansson

As we've reported, Christie's is holding a fine wine auction early next month, in which the main talking point is a spectacular Chateau Lafite-Rothschild vertical - worthy of becoming a tasting session at the table of Lloyd Flatt or Bipin Desai - dating from 1981 to 2005.

The auction carries a mention of 300 bottles (all in their original cases and immaculately kept) in its title.

However, it turns out that this is not the only newsworthy highlight on offer. Of particular note is Christie's selection of the best of super-rare 1911 Champagne direct from the Mot et Chandon winery (Lot 519).

Although still an unusual choice amongst wine collectors, well-aged Champagne is growing in popularity led by the likes of Robert A Rosania (who is likely to look with interest at the sale).

This legendary wine will be auctioning off a luxurious Louis Vuitton leather treasure chest containing six bottles of Grand Vintage. The successful bidder and five guests will be invited to join an exclusive private lunch with Mot's celebrity spokeswoman Scarlett Johansson.

The lunch will be jointly hosted by Daniel Lalonde, President of the House of Mot & Chandon and Mark Bedingham, Regional Managing Director of Mot Hennessy Asia Pacific on September 6.

For this charity lot, proceeds will be donated to support environmental initiatives in China spearheaded by The Nature Conservancy.

A pair of jeroboams of 1996 Dom Perignon direct from the winery will also be on offer in the sale which takes place on September 3.
