Steinway Baby Grand Piano headlines Addisons’ Spring Sale

Addisons are set to conduct their Spring Catalogue sale next month, with a wealth of fine objects ranging from ceramics and glassware through to rugs, textiles and antique furniture.

One of the sale’s many highlights is a superb 1937 Steinway baby grand piano, hand-built and finished in rich mahogany by one of the world’s most renowned piano makers.

“Steinways are widely regarded as the world’s finest pianos and are renowned for their superior sound and responsive touch. Many people like to own them – not just for the joy of playing such a fine instrument – but because they represent such an excellent investment,” said David Elstob, Auctioneer and Valuer at Addisons.

“Baby grands are also particularly popular because, at just over 5ft long, they are small enough to fit into the average size room whilst still retaining the powerful, rich tones of the larger grand pianos. This particular piece is in good condition and has been carefully looked after by the same family for over fifty years.”

The piano has spent the past five decades in the ownership of a single family, and will feature in the sale with anestimated value of £7,000 - £10,000.

Steinway & Sons were founded in New York in 1853, and have won numerous awards including a royal warrant by appointment to Queen Elizabeth II. Their pianos remain some of the most sought after on the market, and have been famously owned by music icons including John Lennon and Elton John.

The sale will take place at Addisons in Barnard Castle, County Durham on Saturday March 3.
