Steiff Roly Poly bear is a teddy bear manufactured by Steiff circa 1909. The bear
The Roly Poly bear is weighted so that when it is pushed over, it springs back up again. The bear has a small rattle inside which will make a noise whenever the bear is moved.
The bear is made of blonde mohair with black shoe button eyes. It has a pronounced slipped snout, a black horizontally stitched nose, mouth and paws. The bear has a swivel head, joined arms and a ball shaped body which enables it to roll around without falling down.
The Steiff Roly Poly teddy bear was a limited edition bear and only 3000 were produced.

Steiff are a German teddy bear manufacturer founded by Margarete Steiff in the 19th century.
Margarete Steiff’s nephew, Richard Steiff designed “Bear 55PB”in 1902, the world’s first toy bear with jointed arms and legs.
In 1903, Margarete allowed Richard to present the bear at the Leipzig Toy Fair. An American businessman saw the bear and placed an order for 3,000.
From 1906 onwards, the bear sold under the name “Teddy bear” after US president Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt.
On December 6 1999, Christie’s in London sold a Steiff Roly Poly bear for £8,625.
Christie’s London, sold another Steiff Roly Poly bear for £6,110 on June 10 2003.
On November 18 2009, a Steiff Roly Poly bear was sold by Bonhams for £10,560.
