Sports memorabilia hits a home run in Detroit

An NBA Championship ring and the man who 'tamed the Detroit Tigers' will star at auction

An auction at DuMouchelles on February 12-14 will feature more than 1,500 lots of fine art, antiques and vintage collectibles for sale.

Of particular interest tobasketball collectors is a 2004 Detroit Pistons NBA Championship ring, commemorating their victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. It carries an estimate of $4,000-5,000.

The channel set 10K white gold ring boats 56 round brilliant diamonds, totalling 1.03 carats.

In addition, the name of a team associate -not a player -is engraved inside the ring. It will be sold with a presentation box and certificate of authenticity.

Other sports memorabilia in DuMouchelles' sale will include an "Official League" baseball autographed by Dizzy Dean (1910-1974), the renowned St Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame star pitcher.

The ball and autograph are each in good condition, and will sell with an estimate of $1,000-1,500.

In an ironic twist, the artefacts will be sold in the Detroit - whose team, the Tigers, Dizzy Dean helped to defeat in the 1934 World Series.
