Sound of Music costumes to auction for $250,000 with Profiles in History

Profiles in History offers more Sound of Music costumes following a successful sale

Profiles in History will offer a further selection of costumes from the hit musical The Sound of Music on December 21 in Hollywood.

The sale follows on from the auction house's $1.3m sale of dresses and clothing from the film in July, which garnered strong attention from the collecting community. The current collection, to be sold in a single lot, is valued at $150,000-250,000.

Included are 14 costumes, highlighted by the uniform worn by Christopher Plummer as Captain Georg von Trapp in the songs "So Long, Farwell" and "Edelweiss", two of the most famous of the film.

Also featuring is a jacket worn by Charmian Carr as Liesl von Trapp when singing "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and five of the seven Von Trapp children outfits from "Edelweiss" and "So Long, Farewell", with two capes worn by the children in "Climb Ev'ry Mountain".

They are joined by two Von Trapp children costumes from the "Do-Re-Mi" scene, and a further three child outfitsfrom the family dinner sequence.

The previous collection of costumes was more valuable as it contained dresses from Julie Andrews as Maria.

The collection comes from the celebrated Star Collection of Hollywood's Western Costume Company, one of the oldest and largest costume companies in the world, which hasn't offered any costumes for sale in more than 25 years.

The company will be consigning more costumes through Profiles in History in the same sale and later, the auction house has announced.
