Soda collectibles relate to cans, vending machines, advertising and other memorabilia from the 20th century.

Collectors’ interests often focus on a certain era, brand (e.g. Moxie or Coca-Cola) or technology (like vending machines) which are collected, admired, discussed and restored by collectors.

Appeal to collectors

Fascination in a certain brand of soda collectible can often result from its perceived iconography, or fascination with its history – or even mystery – and nostalgia.

For instance, the Moxie brand centred around “Lieutenant Moxie” who supposedly discovered a starchy plant in South America. However, no official records of Lieutenant Moxie exist leading to discussion and interest among collectors.

Nostalgia

As with collectors of vintage posters or art, soda collectors’ nostalgia can often focus on vintage label designs or designs of bottles, advertisements or vintage no-longer-used technologies.

Restoration projects

As with classic cars, fascination in the history of soda collectors has resulted in a number of restoration projects.

Examples of these can be found on websites including ColaMachines.com which features a number of examples of restored vending machines, such as the Vendolator VMC90 (Pepsi branded). The site also lists vending machine components and related memorabilia for sale.
