'Sister' of the world's most expensive Bugatti car could bring $6.2m

This stunning 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coup is coming to RM Auctions, next month

A number of world class classic carsare headingto RM Auctions' sale at Villa d'Este, Lake Como on May 21, including a 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante Coup.

Chassis number 57551 is one of just 40 type 57S vehicles built, of which only 17 were Atalante Coups. It offers 200 horse power and an eight cylinder dry-sump engine.

The Type 57 was an entirely new design for Bugatti. Production began in 1934 and continued until 1940.

This low-slung, sporty vehicle has won multiple awards, including Best of Show at the 1976 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

This Italian beauty is famed for its curves...

The supercharged specimen has been fully restored and is one of the most attractive, rare and best performing of all Bugatti road cars available to investors.

It has a high endestimate of $6.2m.

That said, a 1936 version of its close relative, the 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, sold for an undisclosed sum thought to be close to $30m in 2010.

In doing so, the 1936 57SCbecame the world's most expensive classic car. So there should be high-hopes when its 1937 sibling auctions next month.
