Sir Paul McCartney signed letter (1942) (PF1)
A rarely seen, early, typed letter from Paul McCartney sent from his childhood home at 20 Forthlin Road, Allerton, Liverpool.
20 Forthlin Road is now a museum but was the original venue for The Beatles' earliest rehearsals in their most formative years.
Paul writes to Liz: 'Thanks for your letter. Great to hear from you again. And how were your exam resultsjQuery11110625891738338396_1415639790157? I hope you passed everything with flying colours. (Fran too, as I wrote.) Well, 'Taste of Honey' is on the L.P., also 'Chains', 'Anna', and quite a few of our own compositions. (cough cough). Anyway, enough of this idle chatter, 'cos as you mention, we're busy with touring and things, so Cheerio'
He adds at the end 'Yes, I know my typing's (sic) getting worse, but see if I care......'
The songs that McCartney mentions in the letter were all included on The Beatles' debut album Please Please Me released on March 22, 1963.
This album, which also included the iconic original tracks 'Love Me Do' and 'I Saw Her Standing There' that McCartney alludes to in the letter, was later singled out by Rolling Stone magazine as No. 39 on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time'.
The letter measures 7.75 x 6.75inches and is beautifully signed off with his signature: 'Lots of love, Paul xxxx.'
It is framed with a photo to an overall size of 22.25 x 14.25inches. The letter is in fine condition with the usual light wrinkling associated with items of this era.
Having already sold over one billion records The Beatles continue to grow in popularity around the world with McCartney himself hosting his first concerts in Moscow, Russia and Shanghai, China in recent years opening the band up to a new generation of fans.
Following the recent death of George Harrison, leaving two surviving members, Beatles memorabilia has continued to increase in value with McCartney signatures up 1,100% since 1997.
Genuine pre-fame letters with a personal content such as this are highly sought after, and this item represents a superb historical document of the most celebrated Group in the history of Rock and Roll.
