Signed Obama letter guns for $10,000 at Goldberg auction

Political collectors and autograph investors will fight over Obama's signed letter later this month

They're rolling out the green carpet for Barack Obama in Ireland today as the US president drops in.

Obama will visit Dublin and Moneygall in County Offaly, where his great, great, great grandfather was born in 1831, before moving to the US in 1850.

Obama's visit is attracting huge publicity and is testament to the man's star power, which is great news for political investors.

Obamas Irish roots have been celebrated in song

A signed 2009 letter written to a gun collector, concerned that Obama was set to remove the right to own firearms, is set for auction at Goldberg in Beverly Hills on May 29.

"I've got no interest in taking guns away from lawful gunowners!" reads the $7,500-$10,000 estimated letter, written on White House headed notepaper.

A similar Obama note written on White House paper sold for $7,000 in a private sale in 2010.

Replying to a Michigan mother's lament at the difficulties in the job market and medical bills, Obama promised: "Things will keep getting better".

Obama will spend Tuesday and Wednesday in Britain, before pressing on to France for the G8 summit on Thursday.
