Signed Beatles Love Me Do achieves $22,000 in online auction

A rare signed copy of the Beatles' Love Me Do has sold with excellent results

A signed copy of the Beatles' first single, Love Me Do/PS I Love You, has sold with excellent results in an online auction that closed yesterday (October 17).

Beatles Rare Signed Love Me Do single Love Me Do reached 17 in the UK charts and was a number one in the US

The record featured the autographs of all members of the band, with each adding "xxx" under their name. The signatures came just two days after the record's release on October 6, 1962, at one of the Beatles' many promotional signings, in Widnes, UK.

The record is a Parlophone red label disc, the design for which was discontinued in 1963, further increasing its rarity, and desirability for collectors. Rating "very good minus" for condition and housed in its original sleeve, the disc sold for $21,974.

The top lot among the Beatles memorabilia was a piece that the renowned Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo described as "one of the finest Help!-related items in existence" - an original programme from the movie's world premiere, inscribed to the Beatles' lifelong friend and one of the film's stars, actor Victor Spinetti.

Beatles Help! signed program Spinetti starred in all of the Beatles' movies as George's mother fancied him

The programme originates from the London Pavilion event on July 29, 1965, with all of the Beatles signing in ballpoint on the back cover. The inscriptions read:

"To Victor, My life's work. With all my sincerest devotion and that God rest you from John (Lennon) x"; "To Victor, Best wishes, Ringo Starr"; "Dear Victor, I like you, but you weren't as good as Mal, Paul (McCartney)"; and "Only for you Victorit would have all been possible! George Harrison."

A truly impressive piece of Beatles memorabilia, the programme sold for $24,172.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has some of the finest Beatles memorabilia available, including an extremely rare signed LP sleeve of A Hard Day's Night, which is one of only 8-10 known to exist.
