Shrinking Violet doll

A Shrinking Violet doll was a talking doll manufactured by Mattel for one year in 1963. It was based on the character of Shrinking Violet that appeared in the 1963 American children's cartoon series 'Funny Company'.

The doll featured a violet dress, blond yarn hair and a printed face. A pull string on its back would activate the voice, and the dolls eyes and mouth would appear to move when it spoke. It contained phrases such as "I'm afraid of noisy boys" and "people are so big".

Because the doll was only manufactured for a single year, examples are now sought after by toy collectors. Dolls in good condition with working pull strings can often sell for more than $350.
