Scored 100/100 by Robert Parker, US auction unveils the 'intense' Lafite 2000

From the temperature-controlled cellar of an avid wine collector, here are two exceptional wine lots...

Leland Little of Hillsborough, North Carolina, is the latest auction house to gocrazy for Lafite, offeringtwo lots comprising three bottles of the wine in its upcoming December 3-4 sale.

Each lot featuresthe2000 vintage Chteau Lafite Rothschild - and the wine is expected to lead the US sale.

Known for its relative density - compared to, say, the beautiful 2001 - the 2000 boasts a fruity acidic aroma, and regarded as a leading example of a complex and rich wine.

Leading expert Robert Parker once wrote of the 2000: "[It is]a compelling wine, with extraordinary precision, great intensity, and a seamlessness...

"The finish lasted a whopping 72 seconds! This is utterly fascinating stuff." Parker gave the wine a full 100/100 point score - making this the latest in a number of wines awardedthe full 100 points by Parker to emerge for sale on the markets in recent months.

According to Leland Little's notes, the sixbottles were "removed from the temperature-controlled storage unit of an avid wine collector."

Each lotcarries anestimate of$4,000-5,000. With online bidding available, it is highly likely that Asia-based bidders will get involved.

Lafite has consolidated its position as Asia's most popular wine throughout 2010 - especially the 2008 vintage - and shows no signs of slowing down.

Two lots, each comprising three bottles, will appear in Leland Little's sale

And, bearing mind that single bottles of the 2000 Lafite have been selling for $2,133 on average in 2010 (according to research by Vinfolio) it'll be very interesting to see how these lots perform.

Leland Little's sale will be held over two days: December 3 will focus on fine wines, while December 4 is an estate sale featuring jewellery, furniture and other antiques.
