Brief history/biography

The San Francisco 49ers are both legally and corporately registered as the San Francisco Forty Niners, Ltd., and is also the oldest major professional sports team in California. The team was founded in 1946 and the team colors are red and gold.

The San Francisco 49ers have won five Super Bowl Championships in 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989 and 1994, four Conference Championships in 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989 and 1994, and 18 Division Championships in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2002, and 2011.

Seized Assets Auctioneers in Westlake Village, California sold Jerry Rice's framed San Francisco 49ers jersey for $625 in May of 2009.

Grey Flannel Auctions, Inc. in Westhampton, New York sold Dwight Clark's 1981 game-used San Francisco 49ers jersey for $2,500 in September of 2006.

Seized Assets Auctioneers in Westlake Village, California sold Jerry Rice's signed San Francisco 49ers helmet for $600 in April of 2009.

Footballs

Grey Flannel Auctions, Inc. in Westhampton, New York sold the football which was used in the Super Bowl XXIII game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals on January 22nd, 1989 for $950 in September of 2006.

Artwork

Geppi's Memorabilia Road Show in Timonium, Maryland sold a limited edition serigraph by sports artist LeRoy Neiman of Jerry Rice wearing a San Francisco 49ers jersey and catching a football for $1,500 in October of 2005.

Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas sold a "fantasy illustration" of a comic book hero in a San Francisco 49ers uniform which was drawn by comic artist Jack Kirby (circa 1970s) for $1,600 in February of 2009.

Figures

Profiles in History in Calabasas Hills, California sold a 6 ft. 6 in. figure of Joe Montana as the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers along with a wax head portrait painted in oil which was created by Logan Fleming for $1,300 in May of 2009.

Guide for collectors

Memorabilia that was once owned, signed or used by Joe Montana (who played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1979 to 1992), Jerry Rice (who played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1985 to 2000), Dwight Clark (who played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1979 to 1987), and Steve Young (who played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1987 to 1989) is considered to be the most valuable.

There are only 250 limited edition Jerry Rice serigraphs by artist LeRoy Neiman, thus are considered to be rare.

Restoration of a San Francisco 49ers helmet, jersey, uniform or football is not recommended.
