Brief history/biography

The San Antonio Spurs were founded in 1967 and joined the NBA in 1976, and their former team names include the Dallas Chaparrals (from 1967 to 1970 and 1971 to 1973) and the Texas Chaparrals (from 1970 to 1971), until officially changing the name to the San Antonio Spurs in 1973.

The team colors are black, silver and white.

As of 2009 the Spurs ranked third for the highest winning percentage in NBA history, and have only missed the playoffs four times during their history. The Spurs have also won 17 division titles which is the most division titles in the NBA during a 33-year span.
