Ruby red Romane-Conti 1990 to flow at Christie's
The exceptional wine is expected to bring $60k for a four bottle group
Christie's are holding an impressive sale of rare, collectible wines at the end of this month, with a number of exciting lots.
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) needs no introduction to wine-lovers. However, some DRC wines stand out from the rest. World famous critic Allen Meadow's Burghound website described the 1990 vintage as follows in 2008:
"Initially, this is aromatically tight and closed but after 2 hours, it absolutely explodes from the glass with a breathtaking panoply of Asian spices, exotic fruit aromas and a touch of earth followed by rich, lush, almost opulent flavors that melt in the mouth and coat the palate with a layer of velvet on the fantastically long finish."
The review goes on to note that this is a wine which is likely to last 50 years, making it a natural investment opportunity.
Now a four bottle lot of this exactvintage is leading the auction at Christie's. Estimated at $40,000-60,000, it is likely to be the top lot in their auction on February 27.
Red wine has proved to be an excellent investment over the past decade, and as usual thehighest end examplesare the very safest options.
