Rose gold watch celebrates Mexican independence

Audemars Piguet issues a limited timepiece to mark 200 years since Mexico's split from Spain

Next year will see the second centenary of Mexico's independence from Spain.

To mark the date, Audemars Piguet are releasing the Audemars Royal Oak Offshore Piguet Pride of Mexico watch. It is a limited edition, with 200 available in titanium and 100 in rich rose gold.

The watch keeps the fundamental Royal Oak Offshore octagonal case (42mm wide, 14.7mm thick) and style.

The most obvious reference to Mexico on the face of the watch is in the colours: a white dial, olive green hour markings and red hands, marking the three main colours of Mexico's flag.

There are three subdials: marking the date, 30-minute and 12-hour countersand offering a tachymeter.

The back more clearly celebrates the centenary, with the words 'Pride of Mexico' and the dates 1810 and 2010 appearing around the image of the Angel of Independence statue, located in the nation's capital Mexico City.

No doubt some of the watches will go to people living Mexico City, as it is home to the nation's richest communities.

Inside, the watch is powered by an Audemars Piguet Calibre 2326/2804 automatic chronograph, yielding an oscillation frequency of four hertz.

The watch is water-resistant to an impressive 100 metres, so it is appropriate that it is finished with a hornback crocodile strap.

Audemar Piguet commissioned three Mexican photographers: Allan Fis, Edgar Ladrn de Guevara and Enrique Covarrubiasto present works with the theme Pride of Mexico, to accompany the release.

The timepiece is to be released shortly, and is likely to be in high demand.
