Rock & Graner market toy makes $12,500 at Bonhams

Bonhams' Fine Toys auction, now underway, has sold a rare Rock & Graner market toy

A rare tin-plate market toy by long running Rock & Graner has crossed the block at Bonhams this afternoon, selling for $12,500.

Rock & Garner market toy Rock & Graner, a German company, was the world's oldest producer of tin toys, making dollshouses, money boxes and ships from 1813

The market stall, a wonderfully intricate piece featuring hand painted signs and fake food, comes from the world's oldest manufacturer of tin toys and was produced in 1875.

More highlights from the saleinclude a Huntley and Palmer Ginger Nuts van, which has retained its original box despite being made in 1937. It sold for 2,500 ($4,206).
