The ceramic vase (possibly by Sevres) was broken and hastily repaired prior to the sale

The itemsold for 17,000 ($28,516) at Roger Jones Co in Cardiff after being valued at 200-400 ($335-670) WalesOnline reports.

Sevres vase Is it Sevres? The vase sold for significantly higher than its estimate

Ben Roger Jones, a spokesman for the auction house, told the publication: "I felt that the damage was so bad, it would deter buyers - it had been smashed into five or six pieces and glued together quite amateurishly."

Itseems likely that Sevres, the world famous French porcelain factory, made the piece. The buyerseems convincedthat the damage can be mitigated.

In June, a Sevres ceramic plate and teapot sold for 38,125 ($64,650) at Bonhams London.
