Rene Lalique car ornaments to auction in Paris

Will Victoire, a frosted glass car ornament by Rene Lalique, auction for $27,000?

A number of exceptional glass items, including several car ornaments by the eccentric French glass artist Rene Lalique (1860-1945), are to auction in Paris on February 7.

Rene Lalique car ornaments to auction in Paris Will Victoire (circa 1928) bring between 16,000-20,000 ($21,000-27,000)?

Victoire - an extremely rare, 1928 frosted glass bonnet ornament -is estimated to be worth between 16,000-20,000 ($21,000-27,000), while it is thought Naiade, a mermaid shaped bonnet ornament, will bring between 7,000-8,000 ($9,300-11,000).

A circa 1929 car ornament entitled Vitesse, resembling a female nude, brought $14,500 at auction in 2007.

Combined estimates suggest that the car ornaments alone could bring in excess of $100,000.

Lalique glassware has performed very well at auction of late.

In September 2012, a Rene Lalique vase sold for 280,000 ($451,248), setting a new world record price for a piece of Rene Lalique glassware at auction. This recent sale suggests that the market for Lalique is strong. The February 7 sale, which will take place under the inimitable cast iron arches of the Grand Palais, represents something of a landmark for Bonhams, as it will be its first decorative arts auction in Paris - the birthplace of the art nouveau and art deco movements more than a century ago.
