'Raw Power' of Iggy Pop collectibles attracts memorabilia investors

Iggy Pop could become increasingly popular in the future with music memorabilia investors

Even at the age of 63, Iggy Pop can still manage to make an audience gasp.

While Iggy's hip thrusting performance on American Idol isn't in the vomiting on stage category, it is a reminder to collectors and investors that the Stooges front man remains very much part of the music world's consciousness.

And while the Stooges' front man still shows a lust for life, the collectibles market associated with the performer is also vibrant.

Posters of the singer from past tours, particularly those from the 1970s, can exchange hands for hundreds of dollars while signed guitars can achieve similar amounts.

Three items of jewellery once owned by Mr Pop sold at a Bonhams auction in 2010. The biggest seller was a scorpion design keychain, which made 264.

Iggy's torso is familiar to many fans

While not yet commanding huge prices, there is a market for the proto-punker's collectibles. Dare we say it, but when the great performer finally departs the scene, the clamour for his memorabilia could skyrocket, pushing prices to new levels.
