Rarest Beatles promo 45 achieves 16.6% increase at Heritage Auctions

A copy of the Beatles' rarest promo 45, 'Ask Me Why/Anna', sold well yesterday

The rarest of all Beatles promo 45s was sold with a 16.6% increase on estimate at Heritage Auctions' Entertainment & Music Memorabilia sale in Beverly Hills yesterday (July 24).

The record is by far the rarest Beatles 45 from the entire US oeuvre, with as little as five copies of the promotional disc believed to have been produced. It is not certain why so few copies were pressed by the band's US label, Vee-Jay Records, and the two songsnever appeared together on a commercially released single. Ask Me Why and Anna both featured on the band's first US album, IntroducingThe Beatles -the "ad back" version of which stands as one of the rarest Beatles' LPs. In a recent eBay sale, a superb condition copy of the album sold for $15,000. The sale was the first time Heritage Auctions had offered a copy of the Ask Me Why 45 - a testament to its rarity. Graded "near mint 8" and complete with the original sleeve, the record sold for $35,000, against an estimate of $30,000+ from the auction house. Here at Paul Fraser Collectibles, we pride ourselves on sourcing the finest and rarest Beatles memorabilia available. We are currently offering a signed A Hard Day's Night album cover, which is one of only 8-10 to feature the autographs of every band member.Click here to see the highlight of our Beatles collection - a truly unique piece of music history.
