'Rarer than a Ferrari' GK1 could sell for 14k

'Its acceleration makes most sports cars look silly,' said experts about this 1960s motor gem

Among the star lots at H&H's anticipated March 13 auction is this rare and coveted classic motor from the 1960s.

The Gordon-Keeble was launched at the SavoyHotel in 1964. With only 99 examples ever built, it was far rarer than its Ferrari and Aston Martin Contemporaries.

The GK1 boasted spaceframe chassis fabricated from one-inch square tubular steel and independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension, a de Dion rear axle and four-wheel disc brakes.

Beneath its fine-looking glass fibre body - styled by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro, then at Bertone - the GK1 was powered by a Chevrolet 5.4-litre V8 engine producing 300bhp.

British engineers John Gordon and Jim Keeble created a car with two very different sides to its personality: able to comfortably seat four people, while capable of sustaining three-figure average speeds (0-100mph in 16.1 seconds and 145mph flat out).

Chassis number 43, this historic car was produced midway through the GK1's production, and will auction at H&H with an estimate of 12,000-14,000.

It will sell with a V5C Registration Document, MOT certificate valid until November 2010 and period sunroof.

Also for sale in H&H's auction is a fine example of the 'most popular British car ever made', a 1963 Cooper 'S' Rally version of the Austin Mini.
