A rare single from the White Stripes has sold, despite originally being shunned by fans

A rare copy of the White Stripes' second single has sold with impressive results on eBay,despite being shunned by fans when first offered.

The White Stripes single Lafayette Blues rare#1 of the pressing was originally ignored by fans in 1998

Featuring hand-painted artwork from lead singer Jack White and Italy Records owner David Buick, the single is one of only 15 numbered copies that were originally sold for just $6 in 1998. In a 2004 interview with the Observer Music Monthly magazine, White explained: "I remember me and Ben were talking, Aw that's too much! No-one's gonna buy it at the Gold Dollar for six dollars. Hahaha! You had to buy the first one, and there was a ton of people standing around waiting for someone to buy the first one, because they didn't want the first one. They wanted the tenth one."Little did they know the single would now be worththousands to fans on eBay. Numbered one of 15 and accompanied by a Jack White signed letter of authenticity, the record sold for $12,700.Featuring the songs Lafayette Blues and Sugar Never Tasted So Good, this wasn't the first time the single has appeared at auction. In 2010, another copy from the same pressing sold for $18,000. However, the most exciting collectible from Jack White has yet to be discovered. Before he was famous, White worked as a upholstering apprentice and formed a fittingly-titled band called The Upholsterers with a colleague. When recording their first EP, the duo hid 100 copies inside furniture they were working on, none of which have yet been discovered. At Paul Fraser Collectibles, we have a stunning range of rare music memorabilia in stock, including this Oasis drum skin signed by the legendary Gallagher brothers.
