Rare signed Pele autobiography to star at '$393,000' charity sale

Donations from the sporting world's biggest names hope to boost the fight against cancer

A special edition of Pele's autobiography, signed by the Brazilian football legend, will be among the highlights of an online charity auction taking place between October 8 and 23.

The signed limited edition copy comes in a coloured presentation case and bears the former Santos and New York Cosmos star's full name, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, on the cover.

It is hoped that the book will raise thousands of pounds at the cancer charity auction held in the memory of Sir Bobby Robson, the former England manager who died from the disease in 2009.

Signed football memorabilia is in great demand at the moment, and several replica Brazil shirts autographed by Pele have achieved $1,000 at auction in recent years.

The auction aims to raise more than 250,000 for two cancer charities: the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

We're expecting it to far surpass that figure, as the lots donated by the sporting world's greatest names are stupendous.

Pele has drawn crowds throughout the decades

In addition to Pele's autobiography, bidders will have the chance to own Jose Mourinho's Ballon D'Or World Coach of the Year award, which the former Chelsea manager received in 2010 for guiding Inter Milan to Italian league and cup success, as well asthe Champions League title.

A replica of F1 driver Lewis Hamilton's helmet, signed and dedicated to the winning bidder, will also be up for grabs.

Adam Clark, the auction's project manager, told British newspaper the East Anglian Daily Times: "Everyone has been so generous. So many people are passionate about the legacy of Sir Bobby but also about breast cancer and very few people have not been touched by either. "

"That's why so many people are coming forward with some wonderful auction prizes."

Paul Fraser Collectibles will bring you the results from the auction, next month.
