Rare President Hindenburg film brings mystery to Unique Auctions

Rare film footage of Paul von Hindenburg, the second German president, joins militaria

Rare film footage of the second German president, Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934), provides a mysterious addition to Unique Auctions' April 28 sale.

Paul Von Hindenburg Film Footage The films appears to be in double super 8mm format, and cannot be played on any known projector

The footage was consigned as part of a militaria collection in a can marked "Hindenburg", and was initially thought to be a film of the Hindenburg airship. However, further investigation hasrevealed that it is actually a rare short of the Prussian-German field marshal, who would later become Germany's second president and appoint Adolf Hitler as chancellor in 1934.

The film is in a very unusual format, and it is not possible to play it on any known projector. However, stills from the reel have been captured to reveal its remarkable contents.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has an equally remarkable item for sale - the personal photograph albums of Oliver Leese, commander of the Eighth Army during the second world war.
