Bonhams upcoming Sporting Memorabilia this month will offer a wealth of football memorabilia ranging from the 1920s to the present day.

The highlight of the sale will be the collection of medals won by the Liverpool FC legend Tommy Smith during his 12-year career with the Reds.

The collection features 75 lots and includes items from every major domestic and European club competition such as winner’s medals from the FA Cup, UEFA Cup and the European Cup. Also on offer are Smith’s England cap along with 20 shirts worn in major games for Liverpool.

Smith made an incredible 638 appearances for the club, winning every possible trophy and leading the renowned Liverpool manager to remark “Tommy Smith wasn’t born, he was quarried.”

Outside the collection, the sale will also offer collectors the chance to acquire the shirt worn by Diego Maradona in his final appearance for Argentina at the 1994 World Cup, and a collection of medals, caps and shirts from the Arsenal player Charles Jones who played for the club from 1928 until 1934.

The sale will take place at Bonhams’ Chester saleroom on Wednesday February 22.
