Rare ABBA memorabilia collection to auction for $123,000

A collection of rare ABBA memorabilia stars two singles recorded in Swedish

A vast collection of ABBA memorabilia is set for auction in Sweden on August 10-11, with two rare maxi singles expected to lead bids.

ABBA vowednever to perform together again after their split in 1983

Auction house Stockholms Auktionsverk announced the sale of 25,000 ABBA items, which are expected to sell for an estimated total of $123,000.

The two maxi singles were recorded for the birthdays of two members of staff in Swedish.

Hovas Vittne was produced for their manager Stig Anderson's 50th birthday in 1981 and only 200 copies are known to exist, warranting a $3,700 estimate.

Saang till Goerel, recorded for record company assistant Goerel Hanser's 30th in 1979, is even rarer with just 50 copies extant. It holds a $2,250 estimate.

Thomas Nordin, who began collecting ABBA memorabilia after the band won the Eurovision Song Contest with their song Waterloo in 1974, assembled the huge collection, which is the largest of its kind.

One of the most prized sections of Nordin's collection is his clippings from 1974 until today, which are very rare as the band's staff did not start collecting them until later in their career.

He also has some of the most unusual ABBA items, such as clogs made especially for the US market, ABBA-themed toiletries and a collection of matryoshka dolls.
