Randi and Bob Fisher’s photography collection
Randi and Bob Fisher’s photography collection is a private collection of photography described as “a significant and beautiful”.Randi and Bob Fisher
Randi and Bob Fisher, a San Francisco-based couple, have collected photography since the early 1980s.
Bob Fisher is the son of Gap co-founders Doris and Donald Fisher.
The San Francisco Art Beat website states that “the breadth and depth of the collection is unique in its viewpoint of photography history and curation”.
For much of the collection’s acquisition history, the Fishers were allegedly purchasing a photograph per day.
The comprehensive, massive collection contains the work of many canonical twentieth century American photographers and other classic photographers.
These include Edward Weston (who famously shot the photograph, 'Nude'), Robert Frank, Walker Evans, Paul Strand, Alfred Stieglitz, Lee Friedlander, Robert Adams, Andreas Gursky and Diane Arbus, William Eggelston, Gary Winogrand.
The Fisher collection is exhibited sporadically, and hasn’t yet a permanent home for public viewing.
However, it is currently on display at Pier 24 Photography, San Francisco. The exhibition, entitled From the Collection of Randi and Bob Fisher, occupies the 28,000 square foot of exhibition space.
The San Francisco Art Beat website asserts that “San Francisco is richer in its arts scene to have a collection like this available for the public to view within the city” and that “it should not be missed by any avid photographer, educator, collector, or art/cultural appreciator.”
