R.E.M Collectibles And Memorabilia are items relating to the celebrated U.S band R.E.M.

Brief history/biography

R.E.M. were a post-punk/alternative rock band based in Athens, Georgia and formed in 1980. The band originally consisted of Michael Stipe on vocals, Peter Buck on guitar, Mike Mills on bass, and Bill Berry on drums.

The band's first single ("Radio Free Europe") was released in 1981, and then the group went on to release the Chronic Town EP the following year. By 1983, the band released their highly successful debut album, Murmur, however, it wasn't until the release of their 1987 single "The One I Love" did the band truly achieve international success.

The group signed on to Warner Bros. Records in 1988, and when the band re-signed with the label in 1996 for $80 million, it was declared as the most expensive recording contract in history at the time. Throughout their career the band has sold over 70 million records, and inspired many other alternative rock groups in the 1990s such as Nirvana, Sonic Youth and Pavement.

Some of their most successful albums to date include Out of Time (which was released in 1991 and included singles like "Losing My Religion" and "Shiny Happy People"), Automatic for the People (which was released in 1992 and included singles like "Everybody Hurts" and "Man on the Moon"), Monster (which was released in 1994 and included singles like "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" and "Crush with Eyeliner") and Up (which was released in 1997 and included the single "Daysleeper").

In 1997 Bill Berry left the band, and in 2007 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Michael Stipe is well known in the musical community for his work in social and political activism, and was also responsible for selecting album artwork and directing various music videos for the band as well.

In September of 2011 the band announced on their website that they were retiring from the music industry.

Guide for collectors

Memorabilia that was once signed, owned or used by Michael Stipe is considered to be more valuable than memorabilia that once signed, owned or used by any other band member. However, memorabilia that was signed by every band member also drives up the value of the item as well, and is also considered to be rare; (especially if it was also signed by former drummer Bill Berry).

Restoration of an instrument is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage.
