A superb collection of British Commonwealth Queen Victoria issues has soldat a Britishpostage stamp sale for 72.5% more than its presale valuation.

Comprising nine Linder albums, the lot made 8,625 ($13,919) against a 5,000 ($8,068) estimate, further confirmation of the upwardly mobile nature of the British Commonwealth stamps sector - view our remarkable example for sale today.

It proved to be an exciting and varied auction for British Commonwealth collectors.

The South African provinces performed well, witha collection of Cape triangulars sellingfor 2,070 ($3,369),just abovetheir 2,000 ($3,224) pre-auction estimate.

Other notable individual lots at the December 5 sale included a 1942 Bermuda corner pair, showing the "broken top right scroll" and "broken lower right scroll" varieties, which achieved 448 ($713), whilea rare Gibraltar 1906-1911 4/ bearing a reversed watermark realised 776 ($1,252).
