President Theodore Roosevelt's gun aims high at James D Julia's sale

For many Americans, the US leader represents an iconic figure of both a sportsman and conservationist

James D Julia auction house has assembled a sale of historic proportions.

Session 1 will include The President Theodore Roosevelt Fox shotgun, which might be the most historic and most valuable American shotgun ever offered at public sale. This gun and Theodore Roosevelt himself personified much of what is important to any sportsman or conservationist today and certainly should be considered a national treasure.

Also included in the sale are: Rare Class III arms; 20th century military arms and modern arms from famous personages.

These include: a Colt automatic and a guitar which were once the property of Hank Williams, Sr; a pair of holsters and rig used in one of Kevin Costner's early movies, Silverado; a number of guns from the famous actor David Carradine; the Roosevelt Fox shotgun; engraved Model 21 built for automobile magnate, Walter Chrysler; rare Marlin collection of the late Richard Rohal and a 1972 vintage Russian MIG-21.

Session 2 will include the David Crocker Collection; Winchesters including a pristine M1873 1 of 100 Rifle, and 20 Brass guns.

Colts including two Texas Patersons will be available, as will many presentation Colts; Martial SAAs; Henrys; Sharps; Kentucky rifles and early militia muskets and pistols, fine early cased flint and percussion arms

Civil War items including examples from the Fred Edmunds Collection will be on offer including; very rare LeMats, and a number of important Confederate pistols including Dance, Clark & Sherrard and Tucker & Sherrard.

Likewise Confederate and Union swords, presentation, rare slave tags, rare First National Confederate Flag "Victory or Death" will go under the hammer, as will important historical items: an Adolph Hitler signed letter dated 1919; a Wild Bill Hickok signed letter and a Kit Carson (he of early Californian exploration) signed letter.

Last, but not least, advertising items include a piece by Winchester & Remington whilst a very early scrimshawed powder horn and a 1973 Corvette L82 350 V-8 Coup are also to be found in the auction which takes place on October 5-6.
