A Porsche 356 1500 super cabriolet is among the top lots at Artcurial Briest's November 2 sale in Paris, valued at $255,951-307,141.

The lot is one of the exceptionally rare "Pre-A" models, which were built prior to the models' release in 1955.

Only a handful made it to manufacture, while fewer still have survived to the present day.

In order to save on costs, the chassis and engine were based on those manufactured by Volkswagen. Erwin Komeda, designer of the VW Beetle, was responsible for the car's distinctive look.

Artcurial comment on the present lot: "This is a superb example of one of the rarest, earliest and most desirable 356 models, a testimony to the early days of a marque that has had a huge impact on the history of motorsport from 1950s through to the present day."

A 1956 EJS Climax Special is likely to prove another highlight with a valuation of $159,969-185,564.

British engineer and enthusiast Edwin Joseph Snusher built the unique car from scratch over a period of two years between 1954 and 1956.

A 1903 Panhard et Levassor model KB four-cylinder side-entrance Phaeton is set to cross the block in Bonhams' October 31 London to Brighton sale.
