Platinum ring leads Morphy Auctions sale with $200,000 estimate

A platinum ring leads Morphy Auctions' Fine and Decorative Arts sale in November

A platinum ring set with a 2.16 carat fancy grey blue oval diamond, surrounded by 25 pink diamonds, will highlight the Fine and Decorative Arts sale at Morphy Auctions on November 1-2.

The ring comes with an estimate of $175,000-200,000, and leads a selection of jewellery that includes a loose 5 carat diamond valued at $90,000-110,000 and a ring featuring a 1.02 carat purple diamond at $60,000-70,000.

Dog Talk, a John Martin Tracy (1844-1893) oil painting, will highlight the second day with an estimate of $125,000-150,000.

A renowned painter of hunting scenes and dogs, Tracy's work has achieved impressive results at auction in the past. Hunter's Rest, a similar piece, made $420,000 at Bonhams in 2007.

A variety of music boxes are to auction, including a large Paillard revolver music box that features the original keys and a brass and mother of pearl inlay. It is expected to bring $30,000-35,000.

Paillard music boxes traditionally perform well at auction, with a 6 cylinder example achieving $52,000 at RM Auctions last year.

A large interchangeable 7 cyclinder organ box with an ebony case also features, valued at $25,000-30,000.

A print of Marilyn Monroe from Bert Stern's the Last Sitting is expected to make $20,000-25,000, while a Grandma Moses painting titled First Snow could hammer for $18,000-22,000.
