Picasso's '$1m' L'Homme au Gibus won in charity raffle

Picasso's L'Homme au Gibus was won by a 25-year-old American, who bought a ticket for $136

L'Homme au Gibus (Man with Opera Hat), apainting by Pablo Picasso worth $1m, was the prize in a raffle held at Sotheby's in Paris yesterday (December 18).

It was won by ayoung American named Jeffrey Gonano, who decided to enter the raffle on a whim. "I was looking for art and I thought I might as well," he commented.

The event was held by Olivier Picasso, grandson of the painter.

The tickets cost 100 (around $136), with the proceeds going to protect the ancient Lebanese city of Tyre - which was damaged during the long-running civil war.
