Julien's Auctions will sell memorabilia, costumes and antiques from comedian Phyllis Diller

Julien's Auctions has announced its sale of costumes, props, jewellery and antiques from the collection of comedian Phyllis Diller.

The sale will take place on September 22 in Beverly Hills, California, with items spanning antique rugs and fine furniture to Diller's colourful wigs and memorabilia from her home in South Rockingham Avenue, Los Angeles.

Phyllis Diller (1917-2012) was an American actress and comedian, famed for her eccentric persona and outlandish costumes. She reached the pinnacle of her fame in the 1960s, when she appeared on several of Bob Hope's television specials, USO tours and in three movies.

Memorabilia from Diller's career includes a camel-coloured coat and dress that she wore to the Bob Hope Airport dedication ceremony, which is valued at $1,000-2,000. It will sell alongside a $600-800 black chiffon dress worn by the actress at the Bob Hope Memorial Tribute.

Further costumes include a velvet robe worn on The Love Boat, estimated at $800-1,200, and a dress worn on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, which is expected to see $600-800.

However, the most valuable lots in the sale come from Diller's own fine art and furniture collection, with a Kashan Persian rug leading bids at $60,000-80,000. Followingwill bea Georgian style mahogany secretary breakfront at $25,000-35,000.

Also included is an Andy Warhol screenprint titled Cow, which is inscribed "HB PD (Happy Birthday Phyllis Diller) Love Andy Warhol".

Julien's Auctions is also offering items from the estate of Bob and Delores Hope on September 20-21.
