Pelikan 111 Toldeo fountain pen
The Pelikan 111 Toledo (or T111) was a luxury variation on the company's popular 100 model, which was introduced in 1929. The T111 was released in 1931, and featured a black and gold steel body with an engraved, gold-plated Pelikan motif and a newly-designed cap with another Peilkan design on the clip.
The pen was not a top-of-the-line model, and was sold to consumers in the upper middle price bracket from 1931 up until 1937
The Toledo 111 is one of the most sought-after Pelikan pens on the collectors market, described by some collectors as the 'holy grail' of Pelikan pens. A large number of those for sale can be found with a replacement cap, rather than the original featuring the engraved clip, so those with all their original parts sell at a premium.
In March 2003 Pelikan released a reissue of the pen in their 'Originals of Our Time' collection, so collectors looking for originals should be careful to ensure that they are not purchasing an almost identical modern version.
Original models can sell from between £3,500 up to £7,000 depending on the condition of the pen.
