A 1974 Porsche 911 racecar, driven by actor and racing enthusiast Paul Newman at Sebring in 1977, will be offered at Mecum Auctions' April 12 sale in Houston.

Soon he was representing the Bob Sharp Racing Team in the Trans-Am Series, a team he remained affiliated with for the rest of his life.

This car was raced in the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1977 by Newman and teammate Bob Freeman, ultimately finishing in 12th place.

It was sold on in 1978 and was raced extensively across the US. Restorations were carried out by Jeff Works between 2006-2009, and the car is now faster than it was when it first rolled off the production line.

It has also been repainted with the classic orange livery it displayed when Newman raced it in 1977.

There is currently no estimate available for the lot, but in the past cars owned by the actor have made significant sums at auction.

A 2002 Corvette, the last Newman raced before his death in 2007, made $275,000 at RM Auctions' Amelia Island sale in 2012.

We have this racing jacket worn by Paul Newman during the 1980s available to purchase.
