Pablo Picasso Madoura jugs to star at Phillips Auctions

A pair of earthenware Madoura figural jugs by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso are to auction at Phillips Auctions in New York on April 29.

Femme de Barbu (Bearded Man's Wife) from 1953 and 1955's Lampe Femme (Woman Lamp) are expected to bring $18,000 and $12,000, respectively.

Pablo Picasso's Madoura pottery put in a strong performance at Sotheby's in March. 100 comparable ceramic items were offered at the auction house, bringing a total of 1.4m ($2.2m).

The figures suggest there exists a strong appetite for such pieces among serious collectors.
