The original cover art from Todd McFarlane's ground-breaking Spider-Man issue is currently selling well in preliminary online bidding at Heritage Auctions.

The amazing cover willbe soldas part of the auction house's upcoming Vintage Comics and Comic Art Signature Auction, which will be held on July 26-28. Also featuringis a selection of the finest itemsfrom Doug Schmell's acclaimed collection of Marvel Silver Age comics, which will undoubtedly attract global attention. Created in 1990 at the height of his popularity, the collector's edition Spider-Man was the first time Todd McFarlane had both drawn and written an issue for Marvel. Coming off a run on the Amazing Spider-Man series - in which he gave the beloved hero an exciting new look - fans waited with bated breath to see the dramatic results of McFarlane's latest work. As expected, the issue became the single best selling comic book of all time, with the initial run totalling 2.3m copies. Few issues have caused this sort of excitement before or since, with famed comic book collector Bob Overstreet commenting that the hype "spilled over to the entire Marvel line and to DC and other publishers as well."With this kind of excitement caused by a printed issue, the original artwork is sure to whip high-end comic book investors into a frenzy.
