Original Calvin and Hobbes strip expected to wow at Heritage Auctions

An original comic strip from Calvin and Hobbes should perform well following 2012's record

November 2012 saw an original Calvin and Hobbes comic strip set a new world record at Heritage Auctions - and now the pioneering auction house has consigned yet another original strip to its February 21-23 auction in New York.

Calvin and Hobbes original stripThough unlikely to beat the record, this strip should sell with outstanding results

Such is the rarity of Bill Watterson's original work that the example seen in November was the first to have been sold at auction this century. The current offering has been consigned by the same lucky collectors who owned the record-breaking piece, who happen to have been friends with the secretive artist.

Unlike most comic creators, Watterson never allows his original work to be sold, instead keeping them in his own private collection. As stated by Heritage: "Consider this a rare opportunity that may not be repeated for a long time to come. We have no more Watterson Calvin originals 'waiting in the wings' to trot out next time around."

The example at auction, however, is unlikely to break the record set by November's offering, which was a full-colour strip of considerable length. Described by Heritage as "as classic a C&H strip as there ever was", the current piece is a standard four-panel, un-inked strip as seen in newspapers.

Also starring at Heritage's latest comic art sale will be the original Dave Gibbons cover art for The Watchmen, which will undoubtedly ignite huge interest as one of the most iconic graphic novels ever created.

We are currently offering a fantastic selection of original comic art for sale, including a stunning array of items from Charles Schulz's Peanuts.
